CB LoRA v4 — bare-minimum prompts against v1 LoRA (isolates prompt question)
What this run is
v4 isolates the prompt question from the capacity question.
v3 ran bare-min prompts on v2's OVERFIT LoRA → REJECT (all axes collapsed). That left us unable to tell whether the bare-min PROMPTS themselves were the problem, or whether v2's overfit dominated.
v4 reuses v1's LESS-OVERFIT LoRA (steps=2000, rank=32 — the closer-to-correct hyperparams) with the SAME bare-min prompts as v3. Comparing v4 to v1 (which used catalog prompts) tells us whether bare-min prompts work. Comparing v4 to v3 tells us whether v2's overfit was the dominant failure.
Same 6-cell matrix, same identity, same judge, same bar.
Verdict reasoning
IN-FLIGHT — judge running. Decision tree on the verdict:
- v4 ≥ customer bar → v1 hyperparams + bare-min prompts is the architectural answer for ONE identity. The Q1 (identity) gap from v1 will need a fixture expansion to close, but the path is proven.
- v4 fails Q1 only → fixture is the bottleneck; next probe is v5 = wider fixture (+10-20 photos) + v1 hyperparams + bare-min prompts.
- v4 fails Q4 only → Magnific photorealistic upscale on outputs; bridges the AI-plastic gap.
- v4 fails Q1 AND Q4 → both fixture AND post-processing needed; queue both in parallel.
How to continue this work
in the labs channel: kick off v5 with a wider fixture (add 10 more CC-licensed CB
photos from Wikimedia covering different lighting/hair/age), train at v1's
hyperparams (steps=2000, rank=32), run inference with the same bare-min prompts,
judge. Cost ~$6 train + $0.55 inference+judge.
in the labs channel: pipe the v4 outputs through Magnific photorealistic upscale
and re-judge for Q4 only. ~$1.20 spend, ~5 min.

Notes / gotchas
- All 6 cells landed cleanly in ~2 min (no slow Replicate slot this time, unlike v3).
- This run completes the v1/v2/v3/v4 sweep that disentangles capacity vs prompt baseline.

- REJECT — Q4 (photographic) 50% below 80% — AI-plastic look. Q1 (identity) 83% OK. Option: pipe outputs through Magnific photorealistic upscale and re-judge.
